Description

A transdisciplinary research project:

In the framework of the 4th "Connecting Civil Societies of Asia and Europe" Conference organized by the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF), a workshop on "Sustainable Creative Cities: The role of the arts in globalized urban context" was organized by the IKKK (at Leuphana University Lueneburg) and the Urban Research Plaza (at Osaka City University):

IKKK associate researcher Sacha Kagan organized and coordinated the workshop, which was preceded by online exchanges by a transdisciplinary working group (constituted of social and urban researchers, artists, arts managers and cultural operators) for two months (August-September 2010), and took place on October 2nd and 3rd 2010 in Brussels, with the collaboration of Prof. Dr. Masayuki Sasaki, director of the Urban Research Plaza at Osaka City University.

The workshop participants, selected by ASEF on the basis of a preselection by S. Kagan and M. Sasaki, include artists, cultural agents , experts and academics. They elaborated a series of recommendations to the 8th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit of Heads of States.

As a follow-up to the workshop, two reports were issued (and disseminated to public bodies, especially the administrations in charge of the arts and cultural policies, of ASEM Member States), edited by Sacha Kagan and Katelijn Verstraete of ASEF: a short report in November 2010, and a long report in February 2011.
