Description

The aim of this project is to develop and to test an exemplary, practice-oriented further education offering “Environmental Protection and sustainable regional development”. This pilot project is carried out in co-operation with the Department of Landscape Ecology of the Comenius University Bratislava.
The planned part-time further education is addressed to those actors on the municipal and regional level who are involved in environmentally relevant decisions. The main target group is formed by employees of municipal and regional public authorities. Their know-how will significantly determine the quality of the Slovak Environmental Administration which is currently being restructured.

The estimated time period for this project is two years, and it aims to achieve the following sub-goals:

1. Development of a six-months curriculum for employees of communal, regional and district authorities in Slovakia.
2. Trial of this further education offering in three Slovak regions (Bratislava, Banská Bystrica und Košice);
3. Realisation of additional one- or two-week study trips for Slovak participants to Germany, in order to initiate know-how and technology transfer concerning municipal environmental protection.
A medium-term goal of this project is to contribute to the establishment of education and further education structures which are currently missing and which support the further transformation process of Slovakia in terms of sustainable development and in view of a future EU-Integration. This goal is striven for in co-operation with the Comenius University Bratislava and the Slovak Association of Towns and Municipalities (ZMOS).
