The Handprint: Measuring positive sustainability outcomes of products

Project: Research

Project participants

Description

The Handprint is an innovative and holistic approach for assessing, evaluating and communicating sustainability impacts of products. Whereas environmental footprint approaches aim to measure and aggregate negative environmental impacts, our Handprint focuses on positive environmental and social outcomes associated with a product.

The project consortium consists of the Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP), the University of Kassel, the Centre for Sustainability Management (CSM) at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the University of Witten/Herdecke.
Within 3 years (June 2015 to May 2018) the consortium will develop the handprint methodology and test it with SME partners from the food, consumer goods and construction\bulding interior sectors.

The Handprint project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
