Description

How can performance art and critical perspectives create a counter-narrative that goes against normative ways of thinking and being, using their own modes of existence and art making as a form of creating worlds otherwise? This practice-based seminar intends interweave artists practices and experiences of their own deviant bodies with performance studies, queer theory and disability studies. According to José Esteban Muñoz, in his book that carries the concept’s name: “‘Disidentifications is (…) an attempt to fashion a queer world by working on, with, and against dominant ideology”. Going beyond the norms of gender and expanding the discussion into questions of functional diversity, this course unfolds as a series of performances with subsequent discussions with the artists throughout the month of June at the Kunstraum and a workshop with researcher, curator and editor Júlia Ayerbe.
