Professorship for the Sociology of Organisation and Economy

Organisational unit: Professoship

Organisation profile

The professorship for the sociology of organization and economy deals with questions of organization and the economic constitution of contemporary societies. It is oriented towards the international, culturally oriented fields of organization studies, cultural economy and science and technology studies. The term organization is broadly defined in this respect, and the professorship is therefore not only concerned with classical forms of organization, but also with organizing as a fundamental process that produces social order in a wide variety of ways. The professorship focuses in particular on cultural, economic and technical aspects of this organizing. Methodologically, the professorship applies various cultural and social science methods, particularly from ethnography and science and technology studies, and develops these further with a view to methodological challenges, such as those that arise in field research on algorithmic management.
