Das Thema Occupational Health bildet den Schwerpunkt seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit. Dabei beschäftigt er sich mit der Erfoschung des Zusammenhangs von beruflichem Stress, besonders im Lehrerberuf, mit Schlafstörungen und depressiven Störungen. Insbesondere arbeitet er zur Rolle von externer Wertschätzung am Arbeitsplatz, beruflicher Selbstwertschätzung und der Fähigkeit zur gedanklichen Distanzierung von beruflichen Problemen. Ein weiterer Arbeitsschwerpunkt liegt in der Untersuchung von der gesundheitlichen Auswirkungen von Erholung nach beruflicher Belastung und der Förderung von Erholungsverhalten. Zum anderen arbietet er an der Entwicklung und Evaluation von Interventionen zur Gesundheitsförderungen im Berufsleben.
