This paper presents the results of a simulation based study of single, double and quadruple maximum power point trackers for determining the global maximum power point GMPP under partial shading conditions for a solar photovoltaic system using MATLAB/SIMSCAPE. Traditional single MPP trackers are less efficient than double MPP trackers and have a higher sensitivity to partial shading. By using double MPP trackers, several features can be obtained, such as the possibility of connecting two arrays with different string sizes or different solar azimuths or tilts within high efficiency. Thereby, GMPPT depends on the design of the PV system. Quadruple MPPT exhibited more efficient results compared to the other MPPT models in addition to many merits. This paper focuses on making the photovoltaic system operate at maximum possible power under partial shading conditions by using quadruple MPP trackers to achieve the convergence towards the GMPP.
