All the States Parties to the Outer Space Treaty recognize the common interest of all mankind in the progress of the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. However, let us imagine a futuristic scenario where terrorists or tyrants had access to space and began to unleash terror in a space colony. What would be possible to do from a legal point of view? Peacekeeping has proven to be one of the most effective tools available to the UN on Earth to maintain peace and security in those countries where peace is far from being achieved. But will it also be a useful tool in outer space? The fact is that the current text of Article IV of the Outer Space Treaty prevents such operations through a series of contradictions within its content.
