N2 - Stability and change of Central Eastern European party systems has received only limited attention in contemporary political science literature. Based on a research design recently proposed by Peter Mair, openness and closeness of ten Central Eastern European party systems are examined. The analysis provides empirical evidence that today stable structures of competition exist in five states, whereas in another two states there have only been signs of stabilization in the past few years. All in all it can be said that the stability of Central Eastern European party systems has significantly increased over the last ten years.
