Zu den Forshcungsgebieten der Professur für Ökologie, insbesondere Landschaftsökologie und Naturschutz zählen die Waldökologie und -dynamik, der Nährstoffhaushalt und die Nährstoffdynamik von Ökosystemen insbesondere Wald und Heide. Darüber hinaus wird die Beziehungen zwischen Biodiversität und Ökosystemfunktionen sowie verschiedene Landnutzungsformen und deren Einflüsse auf die Vegetation erforscht.
