The boom of energy cooperative startups continued at the same level as in the year 2011. At the end of 2012, there are 754 energy cooperatives listed in the cooperative registries. Numbers of newly registered energy cooperatives in 2012 slightly exceed those of 2011. Regional foci of this development are Bavaria,
Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony. Data used were obtained from public registries and represent a complete inventory count of energy cooperatives at the end of 2012.
