Mobile internet, mobile payments, big data, cloud computing, and other technologies as well as surplus idle resources led to the emergence and development of the sharing economy. The sharing economy provides platforms to replace idle resources and promotes recycling to achieve sustainable development. China’s sharing economy has not been developed for a long time, but is improving rapidly. China is becoming an innovator and leader in the global sharing economy market. At the same time, China’s environmental issues have gradually attracted public concern. As a low-carbon economy, the sharing economy is a way to help China achieve sustainability. This chapter introduces the development of the sharing economy, the reasons for its success, and, more importantly, the role of the sharing economy in promoting sustainability communication and practices in China.
