Introduction: Culture and Sustainable Development in the City - Urban Spaces of Possibilities

Research output: Contributions to collected editions/worksChapter

Authors

The introduction gives some definitional base for the book, about sustainability and sustainable development (with a five-dimensional definition of sustainability: ecological, social, cultural, economic, and personal), and about the different ways culture has been related to sustainable development, arguing for culturally sensitive urban policies. It then focuses more specifically on sustainable urban development and on culture in the context of sustainable urban development. It introduces the book’s central notion of “urban spaces of possibilities,” in relation to culture. The introduction also offers an overview of the book chapters.
