Description

The Universidad Técnica del Norte (Ibarra, Ecuador) and the Leuphana University of Lüneburg offer jointly a postgraduate course (Especialización) on “higher education for sustainable development” at the Universidad Técnica del Norte (UTN). In this course, 16 teachers of all faculties of the UTN are currently enrolled as students. In two semesters, they deal with the concept of sustainable development, the approach of education for sustainable development and its implementation in higher education, virtual learning and interdisciplinary working methods as well as general issues of sustainable development of universities. In a 12-day training programme in April 2011 at Leuphana University, 15 students of the postgraduate study program will deal with higher education for sustainable development and sustainable development of universities in workshops, discussions, group work and field trips. They will learn about practical examples and theoretical perspectives from the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, but also other projects in the region of Lüneburg. In the training programme, participants will also deal with the development of a sustainability strategy for their institution. The project aims to enable the participants to deepen the content of their postgraduate course, to reflect on it in practical contexts and to develop new ideas for sustainable development at the UTN.
