Das SAWA Projekt hat die Entwicklung von Strategien zur Umsetzung der EU-Hochwasserrichtlinie (HWRL) zum Ziel, die im Einklang mit den Ansprüchen der schon bestehenden WRRL stehen. Im Teilprojekt SAWA Ilmenau geht es um das integrierte Wasser Management im Einzugsgebiet der Ilmenau und um die Entwicklung eines Decision-Support-Systems für das Einzugsgebiet der Ilmenau, mit dem Planungen hinsichtlich ihrer Auswirkungen auf das Hochwasserrisiko untersucht und abgestimmt werden können.
