Reduction of energy consumption of pumping stations by intelligent pump control and regulation; sub-project: Prognosis and optimization of energy consumption and dynamic adjustment of pumping plans

Project: Research

Project participants

Description

Throughout Germany, maintenance and water associations operate pump stations. Pumping and pumping stations can be found especially in the dike regions along the coast and along large rivers. Almost all major rivers in Germany have maintenance associations that drain the hinterland in times of high water levels. The overall objective of the project is an intelligent and efficient control and regulation of pumping stations for the drainage of the hinterland and the associated reduction of the energy demand. In the planned project, different approaches are being pursued to this end, which promise potential savings of up to 36 percent. Through optimization and regression methods in combination with simulation, grid-supporting behavior is to be enabled and CO2 saved.
