The project "Sustainability Innovations in Regional SMEs" (NIREM) aims to expand cooperation with industry, society and the regional universities in the field of sustainability management as well as energy and resource efficiency, thus improving the long-term innovation and future viability of companies in the transition region Lüneburg. Leuphana University Lüneburg and Hochschule 21 in Buxtehude are jointly developing an innovative model of knowledge and technology transfer and implementing it as a collaborative project.

Within the project "Sustainability Innovations in Regional SMEs" (NIREM), a large number of actors are involved as partners. The project is carried out jointly with the Hochschule 21 (University of Applied Sciences) and Leuphana, both situated in Lower Saxony and the Transitional Region of Lüneburg.

Under the leadership of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, the university partners work closely in two subprojects:
Subproject A - Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Leuphana) - Coordinating Associate Partner represented by Prof. Dr. Stefan Schaltegger (Head of the Institute Centre for Sustainability Management (CSM)). The CSM works together with the Leuphana Cooperation Service / Transfer Service represented by Andrea Japsen (Head of Cooperation and Transfer Service).
Subproject B - University of Applied Sciences 21, Buxtehude (h21) represented by: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Uelzen (President of the University of Applied Sciences 21)
