Professorship for Sustainable Resource Use
Organisational unit: Professoship
Organisation profile
The working group "Sustainable Resource Use" was established in June 2023 by Prof. David Abson and is affiliated to the School of Sustainability at Leuphana University.
Main research areas
We are an interdisciplinary team working on inter- and transdisciplinary, systems thinking approaches to the sustainable management of natural resources. This work includes both ‘place-based’ research on equitable and sustainable use of ecosystem services at the landscape scale; and national to global modelling of resource and energy flows in relation to notions of social and ecological sufficiency.
Typically, our work takes a social-ecological approach to addressing issues related to equitable and sustainable resource use in a complex and increasingly globalized economic system. The research seeks to balance, theoretical methodological and empirical insights.
Our goal is to contribute to sustainability through robust and socially relevant knowledge (co)creation.
