The emergence of production networks is aided by the penetration of new markets, by acquisitions and cooperation projects. To ensure competitiveness the networks have to be continuously adjusted. This requires a clear and individual target system as well as the selection of suitable optimization methods. This paper compares existing optimization approaches supporting network configuration. From a strategic network perspective, manufacturing companies are enabled to make a pre-selection of optimization approaches.
