N2 - Taking common statistical data of the German statutory health care system it is not possible to make exact assertions about the health care expenditures of different member groups. Using a regression model, here are presented several estimates of the group specific expenditures. It is often stated that the voluntary members are cross-subsidized by the compulsory members. The econometric results do not generally support that statement. Comparing premiums and expenditures it seems that only voluntary insured women are subsidized.
