The study investigates the variation of mechanical and microstructural properties during the extrusion of 18.7 m of fine wire from AlMgSi alloy chips under high extrusion ratio. The processing conditions varied throughout the process (velocity, torque and temperature), resulting in significant differences in mechanical properties and microstructural evolution. The results highlight the impact of temperature on the degradation of mechanical properties, particularly Ultimate Tensile Strength and elongation. On the other hand, hardness is primarily influenced by the plastic deformation characteristics of the process. Moreover, the findings indicate temperature ranges and processing parameters where optimal properties can be achieved, pointing to new opportunities for temperature control and parameter optimization during processing.
